Antibacterial action alone is not enough to prevent mold!?

/

Announcement of the start of the rainy season in Okinawa and Amami!

The season to be troubled by mold has come

Can you take measures against mold with Japanese essential oils? ?

Hello.

I am a member of "Living with Japanese essential oils", a specialty store for Japanese essential oils and domestic natural cosmetics.

The rainy season is finally approaching.

Are you good at preventing mold in your home?

There are many commercially available antibacterial sprays and antibacterial agents,
In fact, "antibacterial" alone is not enough to prevent mold.

Why "antibacterial" alone is not effective against mold

Mold that tends to occur during the rainy season is a "fungus" even if it is a fungus.

Fungi refer to a group of microorganisms that also include molds, yeasts and mushrooms.

It is believed that there are 1.5 million species, including those that have not yet been recognized.

They live mainly in soil, water, air, etc. In nature, they play a role in decomposing plants and animals, and some fungi parasitize humans and cause mycosis.

The difference from "bacteria" is that they do not have a membrane that covers the nucleus, and the chromosomes are floating inside the cell in a bare state. Fungi, on the other hand, have a membrane-covered nucleus.

For this reason, some substances that are likely to be effective against "cells" are less effective against "fungi" whose nuclei are protected.

Therefore, it is necessary to choose a Japanese essential oil that can be expected to have an “antifungal action”.

List of Essential Oils and Fragrance Substances with Antifungal Action

In fact, there are many essential oils that have antifungal properties.
It would be a lot of trouble to list them, so I made a table for each aromatic ingredient that can be expected to have an antifungal effect.

Each of them was divided according to the common antifungal aromatic substance.

For some reason, can you imagine the similarities in the scent of each aromatic substance?

It has characteristics such as a rose scent and a refreshing scent.

What is Japanese essential oil that can be expected to have antifungal action?

Japanese essential oils with antifungal activity include:

There are still few studies on Japanese essential oils,
The current situation is that there are fewer papers compared to overseas essential oils.

However, as shown in the list above, it is safe to assume that Japanese essential oils that contain aromatic substances with antifungal properties have antifungal properties.

I summarized Japanese essential oils that can be expected to have antifungal action and their main aromatic components.

How to use Japanese essential oil as a countermeasure against mold

I have introduced Japanese essential oils that can be expected to have antifungal effects.

So how can we actually use it in our daily lives?

I'll show you how to use it especially in places where mold is likely to grow.

drip on tissue

Living with Japanese essential oils Anti-mold measures How to use Japanese essential oils Drop it on a tissue

This is the easiest way.

Fold a piece of tissue paper at hand in half and add 1-2 drops of Japanese essential oil to it.

Place the tissue in a place where mold is likely to grow.

When the scent disappears, it is a guideline for replacement.

<Example of installation location>

・On the shelf in the dressing room
・Inside the shoebox
・In the wardrobe dance
・Kitchen shelf
・Under the bed mat
・The back of the bookshelf

Note) Please do not put it in the place where the skin touches directly.

take an aromatic bath in the room

If you have a diffuser, you can diffuse it into the space of the room.

Please use up to 5 drops at a time as a guide and enjoy the aromatic bath.

However, after enjoying the aromatic bath, it is important to ventilate as appropriate.

In addition, it is better to avoid pets, children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and elderly people as much as possible.
Please use it with consideration, such as doing it in another room.

Make and spray an aroma spray

Making a spray may seem difficult, but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy.

This time, since it is a countermeasure against mold, I will introduce how to make a spray that uses a higher concentration of alcohol and essential oils than a normal room spray.

Ingredients: 70ml absolute ethanol, 30ml purified water (mineral water if not), essential oil of your choice (total 10 drops), 100ml spray bottle (alcohol compatible)

1) Put anhydrous ethanol and essential oil in a spray bottle and mix.
2) Add purified water (or mineral water).
3) Mix well and you're done.

Please spray it on the place where you are worried about mold and bacteria.

The alcohol content is higher than usual, so the scent is easier to fly,
This is recommended for antibacterial and antifungal purposes.

Please be careful not to apply directly to the skin.
